Try it yourself!

Changing a flat tire is not a difficult job, But it can be if you don't know how! I know a lot of people would say, Who doesn't know how to change a flat? Well I would say lots of people do not know. And so I'm going to help you out! Changing a flat is pretty simple and can be done by anyone. But even though it is simple , It can also be dangerous! So it is important to always be careful when changing a flat.

Break Loose The Lug Nuts

Breaking the lug nuts loose should be done before jacking the vehicle. This way you don't have to worry about the wheel rotating while your turning the wrench. Lugs can be stubborn allot of times they rust to the rim .This is from driving threw different weather conditions over time.Or from a vehicle sitting for long periods of time without being driving. You will need a four way lung wrench or a socket sized for the lug.Now a trick that I do to help with those lugs is to use a cheat bar.A cheat bar is simply a pipe that you slide over the wrench or ratchet, That extends the length of the tool.

Use A Cheat Bar

By using a cheat bar you can double the amount of torque applied to the bolt or lug that you are trying to loosen. This makes the task of breaking those lugs loose a breeze! OK now that the lugs are loose ,Start jacking the vehicle up.I would recommend a hydraulic jack I have never trusted a bumper jack. Place the jack in a secure location, either against the frame or under the axle. As you can see in the photo I'm under the axle.Once the tire is about 2 or 3 inches off the ground, you can finish taking off the lugs. Now pull and lift the tire off the rim. Make sure to stay in a squated position . This way if the jack were to fail , you would be able to jump away from the vehicle much easier.

Replace Tire

Now take the replacement tire and put it on the vehicle. Start putting the lug nuts back on the rim. Tighten lugs as much as you can while vehicle is still on the jack. Once all the lugs are on lower the jack and finish tightening. The cheat bar is very useful in tightening the lugs also. Well that's pretty much it! Hope this information was useful. And remember Safety First!
